[That kind of rare admission from Hazel is one Josuke knows better than to respond to. Instead, he'll keep quiet about it, safeguard the text, and probably never delete it from his phone.
By the time her train should be arriving, he'll be sitting outside the station near the platform, waiting for her just like he promised. And perhaps looking a little sleepier than he means to, but he's got a hot cup of coffee in his hands and it's helping! Somewhat.]
[the train pulls in relatively on time, which Hazel is infinitely thankful for. she can't tired physically, but mentally she's a little burnt out on all this roadtripping and people in close quarters. it's starting to remind her too much of home.
she lingers just outside the doors as the crowd pours around her, balancing a big paper bag while she shoves a bookmark into a pretty thick paperback that disappears into her messenger bag. is that all the luggage she brought on this trip? apparently so. some old habits died pretty hard.
it's not all that hard to spot Josuke once she actually starts looking for him. she's pretty sure that he doesn't see her yet, which means Hazel feels safe enough to smile for a moment or two before starting over. hopefully he didn't nod off by the time she got there.]
[Josuke manages not to nod off, but only because he's in public and because there are a surprising amount of people climbing off the train that's pulled in and others looking to board the next train out of the station. Which means his eyes are scouring the crowd...
But he doesn't see Hazel, not right away. Not until he bothers to take a sip of his coffee and then stand up, peering over some of the shorter heads in view, and around some of the taller ones. Only then is he able to pick out that familiar face standing a lot closer to him than he knew.
His smile, unlike hers, is not hidden at all.]
You made it!
[He'll squeeze past a few people and approach Hazel only to slow down and look at what she's carrying. And what she doesn't have with her. And then he makes a face.]
How the hell could they lose anything? Trains don't check your luggage!
[her cheeks puff out briefly, but she's too happy to see him to really follow through with the facetious outrage. it slides away before she's even finished her sentence, although she does sassily jut her hip out anyway; it makes for a good place to balance the paper bag.]
Besides, maybe I've got more than you realize and you're just hallucinating because you're so tired. It's pretty late.
[which is to say, she appreciates him coming out here and is grateful that he even managed to be awake and alert when she arrived.]
[But she's not concerned, so Josuke lets it go. The obvious assumption here is that she packed light. Very light. And knowing what he does about Hazel, this really doesn't surprise him.]
Anyway, I'm not tired! [Said as he takes another sip of coffee before pointing at the bag propped up on her hip.] So, what did you bring back?
[she says this with a faint amount of pride, even as the bag slowly slides down her hip and causes a very undignified scramble to hoist it back up. thanks for helping make her look cool, souvenirs. this is why she shoved the rest of you into her bag!!!]
I got lost twice in the middle of the night in a fucking nightmare forest trying to find the place, but it was totally worth it.
[Like, seriously, how could she get lo—no, better not to ask that question. The answer is one he already knows, anyway: she's Hazel. He wouldn't be at all surprised if some unusual variety of plant had drawn her off course and she'd wanted to investigate, or she'd gotten herself into some kind of trouble and had been forced to make a run for it.]
Never mind, you need help with that?
[He's still got his coffee in one hand, but his arms are larger than hers, that bag would be a non-issue.]
