[ aaand kaneki will arrive to hazel's place soon enough. Instead of knocking, he sends her a message saying "I'm here", because he sort of doesn't want having to meet other people she lives with. ]

[fortunately(???) for Kaneki, the only housemate Hazel currently has as of a few days ago is her secondhand owl, who given the time of day is currently napping away in one of the empty rooms she's commandeered for him. it's why the door opens in pretty short order - the most pressing thing she was doing beforehand was folding some more animals for her slowly growing origami zoo.]

I thought you got lost for a while there.

[he didn't actually take that long, she's just happy to see him. she rocks back on her heels and pivots a little so that he can get in around her.]

[ cannibals don't like much company you understand.

He smiles when he sees her, and at the invitation to get inside, he does so. ] I told you I'd eventually drop by. [ he keeps his promises.

And he then hands her a hand bag he brought along. The gift is not wrapped, he didn't find it necessary, and Hazel will find inside the bag a glorious sweater. Yes, he did it on purpose, and it's totally meant to match Josuke's gift. ]

[she has the decency to at least perch on the arm of the couch before starting to dig into the bag rather than indulging in her instincts and pulling everything out right there in the hallway. when Hazel gets the sweater out in the open she holds it up in front of her, a look of deep impressment on her face.]

Oh my god, this is fucking amazing.

He looks at her and he is actually surprised with himself because this is Kaneki who has zero sense of style and pretty much chose the most glittery thing possible that he found in the shop. ]

[the sweater lowers so that she can give him an almost affronted look. yeah, that's right. she's offended at his lack of confidence in his fashionable gift giving skills.]

Of course I like it, how the hell could I not?

[she leans forward slightly in a mock threat]

I might even give you a hug if you're not careful.

[she laughs a little, teasing right back.]

I don't know if that's really much of an accomplishment. Slap a skull on anything and I'd probably wear it.

Well, giving you presents just became a lot easier now.

[for just a second, there's a very sincere look of gratitude on Hazel's face. it clears out almost as soon as it arrives, however, as a thought strikes her and she slides off the couch and back onto her feet.]
